Frequently Asked Questions
1. Who we are and what we do
Metalmeccanica Rossi is an Italian metal fabrication company based in Forlì, specializing in systems for the storage, mixing, screening and conveying of bulk materials such as powders, granules, flakes and ground products. Our range includes industrial mixers (vertical and horizontal), stainless steel and carbon steel silos, vibrating decks, screw conveyors and complete industrial plants.
We mainly operate in the plastics recycling and processing, packaging, automotive and WEEE recovery sectors, and more generally in industrial processes that require the handling, mixing and storage of bulk materials.
Design is carried out in-house, allowing us to adapt every machine to the customer’s specific technical and production requirements.
Manufacturing is managed and carried out directly by Metalmeccanica Rossi, with particular attention to workmanship quality and customization of each supply.
Our approach starts from the customer’s process. The goal is not to adapt the process to a catalogue machine, but to design the machine around the actual needs of the plant.
2. Custom engineering, materials and certifications
Every mixer, silo and screw conveyor we manufacture is designed and built to order based on the customer’s product, the required capacity and the installation site: there is no fixed catalogue format. Dimensions, materials, motorization, accessories and safety devices are defined case by case according to the material to be handled (bulk density, particle size, chemical characteristics) and the available space.
Our machines can be designed for different types of materials, including granules, ground products, flakes and powders. The solution is assessed according to the specific characteristics of the product.
We manufacture our equipment in carbon steel, stainless steel (AISI 304 or AISI 316) and aluminium alloy, depending on the application and the level of corrosion resistance required.
Structural welding is carried out in compliance with the UNI EN ISO 3834 standard. Where applicable, our machines are designed to meet CE machinery safety requirements. Our structures are certified to UNI EN ISO 9001 EXC3.
3. Our products
We manufacture vertical mixers, horizontal mixers, drum mixers, storage silos, screw conveyors, hoppers, Big Bag discharge stations, vibrating screens, magnetic separation systems, cyclones and material handling and conveying systems.
Our vertical mixers are available from 500 litres up to 150,000 litres (150 m³), with motor power sized according to the machine size and the product to be mixed.
We manufacture monolithic silos (single-piece, rolled and welded structures for outdoor storage of powders and granulates), modular silos (sectional units assembled on site, which reduce transport costs) and Trevira fabric silos — a lightweight, breathable and non-toxic solution, originally developed in the 1960s and still used today for temporary or more economical storage of powders, granules and food-grade materials.
We produce tubular screw conveyors and trough screw conveyors, in carbon steel or stainless steel (AISI 304/316), with wear-resistant (ARDOX) flights. Each screw conveyor is individually designed according to the material to be handled and the required throughput: there is no standard “off-the-shelf” sizing. As standard, our screw conveyors are fitted with high-efficiency IE3 motors, to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions.
Depending on the system, we can equip our silos/mixers with: inspection hatches, internal walkable grating, automatic bearing lubrication, load-cell weighing systems, dust recovery filters, over/under-pressure valves, explosion relief panels and guillotine valves, caged ladders, walkways, handrails, platforms and other access systems.
When included in the supply, we can integrate the electrical panel, sensors, control devices and automation systems, defining their specifications during the design phase.
4. Complete plants and Industry 4.0
Both. In addition to individual machines, we design and build complete industrial plants for handling powders and ground materials, integrating mixers, silos, screw conveyors and screening systems into a single automated line, for sectors such as plastics, chemicals, food, environmental and pet food. We also develop plants dedicated to plastic recycling, designing custom solutions that combine advanced technologies with the goal of maximizing efficiency and reducing environmental impact.
Yes. Our mixers and silos are designed with integrated automation, load-cell weighing and data traceability, allowing them to be connected to plant management systems in line with Industry 4.0 criteria. This makes it possible to remotely monitor production cycles, dosing and machine status.
Many of our supplies are specifically designed to be integrated into existing production lines or plants.
Sizing starts from the analysis of data such as the material to be handled, bulk density, particle size, required throughput, storage capacity, available layout and process characteristics.
5. Foundations, installation and logistics
We can provide data on the reactions and loads transmitted by the structure, so that the technician appointed by the customer can carry out the verification and sizing of the foundations.
Verifying the suitability of the foundations and structures on which our equipment is installed is the responsibility of the customer and the technicians appointed by them.
The site must be accessible and prepared for the planned operations. Foundations, civil works, working areas, utilities and lifting equipment must be available as agreed. Where required, the suitability of the supporting structures must be declared in advance by the responsible party.
Installation can be provided on request. The conditions and activities included are specifically defined in the quotation.
Yes. On request, we arrange oversized transport to the installation site, working with specialized logistics partners who plan the route, timing and handling procedures based on the size and weight of the machine.
Yes. Metalmeccanica Rossi supplies both the Italian market and international customers.
6. Requesting a quote
It is helpful to provide us with at least the type of material, bulk density, particle size, required capacity or throughput, the process to be carried out and the available space. Drawings, photos and layouts of the existing plant can help us develop a more accurate proposal.
You can request a quote through the contact form or chatbot on our website, by phone at +39 0543 815470, or by e-mail at info@metalmeccanicarossi.it. To receive an accurate technical proposal, it is helpful to indicate: the type of machine required (mixer, silo, screw conveyor, complete plant), the product to be stored or processed (powder, granules, ground material, liquid) and its bulk density, the required capacity or throughput, the installation site (indoor/outdoor, seismic zone) and the preferred construction material (painted steel, stainless steel 304/316 or aluminium). Our technical-sales office will follow up on the request to define the final specification.
Any ATEX requirements must be specified by the customer and are assessed specifically during the quotation and design phase. ATEX compliance is not to be considered included unless expressly stated in the supply.
7. Testing, warranty and after-sales support
All our mixers undergo a no-load test before shipment. Testing procedures are defined according to the specific supply. For machines intended to be integrated into more complex plants, a no-load test may be carried out, aimed at verifying the correct operation of the machine we supplied.
Warranty terms are specified in our quotation and order confirmation, and take into account the characteristics of the specific supply.
Machines are supplied with the required technical documentation, including, where applicable, instructions for use, maintenance and safety.
Yes. We can supply spare parts for our machines, identifying them based on the machine’s serial number and configuration.
Our in-house manufacturing and the traceability of our supplies allow us, subject to component availability, to support customers even for machines installed many years ago. Our production is certified to UNI EN ISO 9001.
